Help me chose a Compact camera with good flash for my wife

Mark Grant

My wife needs a new compact camera,

Ideally looking for something that takes good flash pictures indoors for family gatherings etc and as easy to use as possible.

If there is something that works well in auto that would be great.

Does not need to be high end, anything reasonably priced as a carry around camera would be great.

Dont need 16 megapixels :)

At the moment a Fuji f31 is good but flash performance is not that good really as we found out at a recent family function when other peoples photos where far better than ours.

Something that is an old model or second hand would be OK, does not need to be the latest model.

Thanks,

Mark.

Mark ... You dont ask for much do you!?

The Fuji should be fine?!
Try setting the iso to 800 then shooting with the flash ... Also, has the Fuji got a flash power adjustment?

You could spend hours trawling spec for a compact with a high powered flash ... But I'm not sure you would find much good ...
Or better than the Fuji at least ...

I'm not sure what else to suggest .. I spent a fortune on my compact and think it's a heap of crap ...

I know, I want it all :)

The F31 and F45 are not that bad really, I will try a few settings.

Just that at a recent family wedding anniversary event other peoples photos where better straight from the camera and printed at high street shop straight from memory card...
I need to practice with compact cameras I think...

On Friday I ordered a Fuji F70EXR from fuji as they emailed me an offer code for 15% off and I could not resist :)

Bought one of these in black for £84.99 with the offer code:
https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/advanced-compact/finepix-f70exr

If anyone in tempted by anything on Fuji site the offer code is P10FEB15 :)

The F200EXR or F300EXR do look tempting.

A blog with some settings:

I will see what this is like when it arrives.

I'm going to get a high end Fuji compact at some point ... Irony know why I bought the Sony really ... I just can't get on with it ... Everything just looks wrong ...
That guy seems to know his stuff ...
I'm sure with a bit of tinkering you will get some good results ...
When you get the new one, try it on it's auto mode first ... If people you know are getting better results with thier compacts then maybe your over thinking as opposed to under ... I that makes sence? I often do that ... Especially when going from the d3 which does need setting up before use ...
The nice thing about p&s cameras (even if I don't like face detection etc personally) is that they are getting more and more foolproof by the generation!

There are so many compact camera available in the market, but i recommed this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 camera to anyone who is looking for shooting great quality indoor/outdoor pictures.Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 has 14.1 Megapixel sensor resolution with Venus Engine HD II image processor. The Lumix DMC-FZ40 combine an ultra wide angle 25mm 24x optical zoom and optical stabilization in a very efficient way to make great pictures effortlessly. The Lumix DMC-FZ40 features a video mode in AVCHD Lite to make music videos of exceptional quality and you can of course zoom while filming. Take advantage of its ultra-precise. The quality expectations.

Hi Davis

I can see that you are trying to promote your camera review blog ... i have no issue with this as such if you were a regular contributor to the forum ... but as it stands your activities on this forum so far don't really fit in to the conversations.
If you would like to continue to contribute please make sure the contributions are relevant ...

if you want to promote a review you have done, you dont need to hide it behind a vaguely relevant post in an old thread...
Just start a new thread titled e.g. "Canon EOS 60d review" ... write a little excerpt in the post, add a photo to the post of the camera in question, then put a link to your review.
in return for us allowing that, perhaps you could put a little about us on your site?
what do you think?
