Hi Everyone

Merry Christmas from England.

Hope you've all had wonderful Christmases this year :)

It's nice to be here, though I am only an amateur and only have a phone camera to use.

Welcome again to RPF, Sera. There’s nothing wrong with a phone as a camera, and they certainly out-perform many of the compact digital cameras floating around. :)
Thank you 😊 that's great. And yes, mobile cameras make things a lot easier. Especially for me.

Greetings from Dallas, Texas.

I'm a little late on my welcome Sera. No worries about your experience or your camera. After all I think it's more about your heart and your eye isn't it?

I noticed you use a quote by Marlene Dietrich. Do you also enjoy classic cinema?

Hi and thank you 😊

It is definitely about heart and eye, though being better with technique would help in my case.

I do. Marlene Dietrich is my favourite, for many reasons. Has been for years. I like many others though and do enjoy Old Hollywood films. Do you enjoy them too? 😊

I do enjoy old Hollywood films. I think Lauren Bacall and Gene Tierney are two of my favorite female stars but Rita Hayworth in "The Lady from Shangai" is another. Film noir is probably my favorite genre. I also like some of the classic science fiction and Michael Powell and Emeric Pressberger films are also favorites. I think "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" is my most watched and "The Red Shoes" is visually spectacular. It is considered one of if not the greatest display of the Technicolor process.

I'm definitely one of the older contributors here, age wise I mean. The photo I included previously is from my longest running personal photo project of documenting Dallas, Texas and Dallas County since 1978. I'm hoping to have an exhibition in 2028 to celebrate 50 years of photo history. I'm a film shooter almost exclusively. I'm an artist who has been blessed to make my living retouching photos for a number of great professional photographers. For the past 35 years I have produced the work of the excellent Dallas portrait photographer https://www.johnderryberry.com/ I'm also a photo restoration specialist in both digital and analog. I'm one of the last doing analog restoration of original photos.

There's a great group of participants here. I haven't been real active lately due to personal life situations but I enjoy looking in to see what's new. Again, welcome to RPF!

I don't have a favourite, but I do have a few favourites. Witness for the Prosecution (Marlene Dietrich), Morocco (Marlene Dietrich), Meet Me in St Louis (Just Garland), It's A Wonderful Life (James Stewert), Grand Hotel (Greta Garbo), Ninotchka (Greta Garbo) and Some Like It Hot (Marilyn Monroe). There's many others too but those I listed are particular favourites. I love musicals, romances, comedy and western the most.

You've had a long career! Congrats, love 😊 I'm turning 40 this year and no idea what I want to do with photography, other then improve technique and that. It's harder for me as I'm in a wheelchair and can't carry all equipment or get to some places etc. Like it's currently snowy in England. I would love to go out and get shots of trees in snow etc.. Only it's too dangerous, my wheels won't grip icy pavements so all I can do is look out the window 🤷

Welcome, Sera!

I hope everyone takes the time to appreciate your beautiful poetry. So incredibly thoughtful, inspirational, and heartfelt.

As a creative project, have you considered combining your love of poetry and photography? It might provide a starting point from which to derive a sense of direction, motivation, and purpose in your creative journey.

I love writing poetry, as well, and find it quite enjoyable to take photos specifically for use as backdrops to poems.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Best,

Tony
