Hi from Scotland...

Hi all,

My name is Peter, living close to Stirling (Alloa) here in bonnie Scotland, originally born in Northern Ireland and only moved to Scotland just over two years ago, living/working here full time and loving it.

Been into photography quite a while, only recently got into digital photography over the past ten months or so, previously did some landscape photography using two Nikon film bodies (FM2n and a FM), so used to manual stuff. Now getting used to the new digital learning curve ahead. I self taught with regards to darkroom developing/printing skills about fifteen years ago, loved it. I then sold all my Nikon film cameras and darkroom kit due to things happening in my life, then had a long twelve years of no cameras/photography, so just getting back into it again and have a passion to shoot landscape photography and general stuff.

I only shoot in hi-res jpeg as I've NIL editing skills or programmes, so maybe someone here can keep me right I hope. I use a Canon EOS 5D Mk1 full frame body and have only recently bought two Samyang (manual) lenses, 16mm f/2.8 and a 35mm f/1.4, quality made and very well priced, these two Samyang lenses only arrived today so haven't had chance to shoot anything yet. Also own a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 (non IS). Recently bought a Giottos 9271B aluminium tripod and a Manfrotto 808 RC4 head, nice sturdy kit.

My other hobbies are motorcycling (Suzuki V-Strom DL1000) and hi-fi.

Sorry to bore you all.....

Looking forward to taking part here!!

Regards;
Peter

Welcome to the forum Peter :) ... i'm also in Scotland (Dundee) and have spent time in Northern Ireland :)

it's great here, you'll love it

Welcome Peter from no where near Scotland, I'm sure you will enjoy it here, full of friendlies :D have fun and join in :D

Hi Peter,

Welcome. I am probably one of the furthest away from Scotland though I have been there a few times. You have a lot of great opportunities there for landscapes. You can get some really good and practical help here, including use of software for processing your digital images.

Enjoy.

Welcome, Peter, from t'other end of the country.
There's plenty of people on here happy to help, just post a picture and ask...:)

Hi Peter
Welcome to the forum (we got there in the end ;) ... I didnt ask how you know Wazzo Chris, but im guessing from the hifi hobby its connected to that??)

Hopefully we should be able to set you on your way with some RAW photography, it opens a lot of doors to better quality, and really isnt anything to be apprehensive about!
My recommendation is (as always) lightroom ... its a great piece of photo editing software and provides a not to steep learnign curve... Ive been using it for years now and i still learn new stuff about it too!

A great shame you had to sell the nikons ... I have somewhat of a collection of them, I recently picked up a FM2n and im pretty certain its made my way to the top of my favorite Nikon list... even above the F3 ... which is a big deal for me :)

Be very interested to see some pictures from the Samyang lenses, I know they get rave reviews so im sure you will be happy with them! Is the 16mm a fisheye or rectilinear lens?

welcome once again, hope you like the place... I think its pretty good here... but i guess im biased?? ;)

Welcome to the mad house Peter! :D

Looking forward to seeing what those Samyang lenses can do - very interesting stuff.

We love landscape stuff on here - in fact we love anything really - great place to show and learn about photography

Glad you found us :)

Thanks...

Yea I vaguely know Wazzo from the hi-fi forum.

Apart from two Nikons over the years, I've owned these; Mamiya C330s, Bronica ETRS & SQA, Mamiya RB67, Toya 5x4, Olympus OM2....

Samyang make an 8mm which is their fisheye, looking forward shooting with both the 16mm & 35mm Samyang!

Hi there Peter. You will definitely find lots of advice on all aspects of photography in here.

Will be good to see some pics of the Borders. I was down that way earlier in year taking full advantage of my Historic Scotland pass at the castles/abbeys

Thanks...

Lots of interesting gear there!\nI''m just getting into medium format with a blad 500c/m that I decided I wanted after borrowing a c330, loved the square format, but couldn''t quite get on with the style of shooting!

This thread might interest you since you into hifi ;)
