Story time....
I went to a British Military school throughout my education. Very different to schools over here in the U.K in regards to discipline and respect. Stepped out of line and you were in serious trouble.
We used to have 'informal' groups. There were the Tough Nuts or otherwise known as the bullies, or little d**ks. Then there were the geeks, they used to get bullied by them. Then there were the Rebellions which I fell in. We did insane and outrageous things that were senseless and stupid. But we were left alone to our own devices.

I feel like I'm still in school!

I think you have read the Welcome sign correctly, Dan. Obviously it is some sort of Theme Building and getting past the locked doors is all part of the experience they want you to enjoy.
