i hope this works

Hi Davie

Both nicely composed shots imo

care to tell us about the equipment used etc, it might help people comment

Also, do you shoot raw?
what sort of level of post process do you do? if any?

They do look a little soft, but i am going to assume this is more down to jpg quality, If you let me know how you save them and I will try and give you some instruction on how to get better versions for web.

Certainly :) they were both shot using a 14-42mm lens. I always shoot in Raw and edit the photos using Aperture 3 ( I prefer it to photoshop). I will admit they were compressed a lot when transferring them over from .ORF to .Jpg .

As for editing, the waterfall took virtually nothing whereas the one of Loch Shiel I used highlights and shadows, contrast and a bit of polarizing:)

See if you can output a slightly better jpg ...
The best settings for the forum that shouldn't effect the quality to much are 72dpi, jpeg quality 7 (or 70%) and 900px wide
That should give a better impression of what the image is like full size...

Considering the lack of pp, the exposure is very good!
To my eye I would perhaps try and give them a bit more pop, maybe a little tweak to saturation and contrast.. But really this sort of thing is very subjective, some people prefer more po, others don't! Thefundamentals ie. Compo and exposure are very good!

The Exif data for the second one is as follows

ISO 100
14mm
F3.5
1/500 seconds

Much better Davie!
My comment would be to echo Petes,
14mm (28mm on your camera of course) will give vast DOF even at larger apertures
I can see that you may have used a larger aperture to maybe blur the mountains slightly??
Or is that just the natural atmospheric haze??
if that latter, under the shooting conditions id have maybe considered stopping down 2 stops to f5.6! there is a good at 5.6 the lens will be sharper edge to edge! a shutter speed of 125th would retain the same exposure which should be fast enough not to cause any blur ...

i have to admit i never even looked at the F-stop at all, just took the exposure time to a point i was happy with

I shoot the massive majority of the time in aperture priority... I find its the best way to make you think about that sort of thing
not necessarily for every situation, but works for everything i shoot
