Thanks all. There were a few herds in Prague and there are some in Potsdam also. So far just isolated groups. I just hope tey don't evolve to being able to get up and down stairs!

I love the PP too. I've never seen those things other than on breakfast TV - I had no idea people really use them in the street

They do Segway tours. You get trained and then they take you to see various highlights.

And to think the Sinclair C5 never took off! What is wrong with this world. Maybe he was just ahead of his time and in the 80s before computers became so widespread there just wasn't enough nerds.

I suspect that might have been part of its downfall Paul - you're ahead of nobody in C5 and the view of the backs of people's knees has a rather specialist appeal!

What do you call a group of Segways?

A plunge of Segways perhaps?

I like the contrast of the older men on the Segways, and the younger women all on foot - it's as if the Segway guys are tourists from another dimension, come to observe our world.

And in that other dimension they wear silly helmets and nerdy jackets

I used to have a Sinclair C5 and even managed to roll one that had a petrol engine in it, but I'd still love to have a go on one of them Segway things (even if the guy who invented them killed himself on one[doh]).

These are quite common in the US, but are banned on public roads in Britain, so that's why you guys aren't familiar, I think. The guy who died riding one was a Brit. He recently bought the company. But he did not invent it. That was Dean Kamen, who is still alive.
