Just for Show It's all about TRAINS (open thread)

Staying in the archive in the late seventies. On the one hand British Rail was wooing potential travelers with the slogan "This is the Age of the Train". On the other the freight arm was doing good business with the transport of import and export cars.

Train Collector - Alhambra, California
This guy collects full-size trains. He has constructed a station, Grizzly Flats and an oval track in his backyard. The train runs and he has a few cars. He gives runs to family and friends. His name is Ward Kimball and he was one of the original Disney Imagineers.

Wow, this is amazing, great hobby but I've no backyard!

Yes, truly amazing to have a working train in one's home. Grizzle Flats Station has a raised platform for passengers and an office for tickets. In and about LA, there are a number of model train halls/clubs ... but Kimball has it all. Obviously, Kimball has a large yard, but Alhambra is a suburb of LA, not out in the country. If I remember correctly, Kimball's home was either part of or butted up to an orange grove which become incorporated into his hobby. (It is a tight oval of track.)
