It's Art; It Must Be Good

Is it Giacommeti? I thought it was. Some 30 years ago I read a paper by Jean-Paul Sartre on Giacometti. Great stuff.

Good arty shots, Tom!

I had a big discussion with my 20 year old daughter last weekend about what is art ... phew that was a doozy! Great shots Tom, i found myself curious as to what they were

well i told her that for me, and for a lot of 'art' she needed to look beyond the physical item and couple it with the concept ...

... and her answer to that?;)

she thought the photos she was looking at were crap.... she is of the opinion that art should stand up on it's own without an explanation of what it's supposed to be :) also, she likes my photos :D

I tend to stay away from that discussion too. I tend to find that a lot of the time I am trying to explain what a piece of art is to someone who just doesn't like it. They are just not very receptive to anything that might seem to them like a justification of the item in question. I do also feel that many people wrongly assume that they should just be able to get an image, sculpture, literature, etc.. Often it takes someone to learn something new to be able to understand it.

I agree with that when it comes to literature, but not art .... i'm very simplistic when it comes to art
