Laptop Repair

system fan error (90B) has been appearing on my laptop since before Christmas and the fan seems to run constantly even when the laptop doesn't seem to be doing much.

Today i eventually contacted PC world, i had been putting this off for some time as i have heard they are useless and that i may have a heated debate / fight on my hands to get it repaired

The guy was real helpful and informed me my laptop fan had a fault which needed repairing and probably replacing which would be FOC as the machine is still under warranty. I was advised to take it to my local store (which is 70 miles away) but i cheekily asked if collections was possible so its being collected on Tuesday next week and redelivered the following Tuesday. How the hell am i gonna cope all that time with no lappy lol

anyhow my real question and point to this thread is IF i had any software that was not legit on my laptop should i remove it before it being collected.

Holy, Moly, You have software that is not legit? Why would you have such stuff on your laptop? ; )

I doubt the repair place will look at your software. They'll probably just replace the face and call it a day.

they won't even look at your software, they'll go on the report by the engineer and replace the fan ... i've had it done to various laptops over the years

If I were sending a laptop for repair I would backup the hdd, all the stuff i needed like software settings LR catalogue, presets etc all that sort of thing and then wipe the bugger ...
that way there is no worry either way ...
Id be more worries about them replacing it and you loosing everything than anything else

non legit software is naughty... we do not condone the use of non legit software here on RPF ... just so we are clear on that one

I guess this is a purely hypothetical questions purely for academic reasons .

EASEUS Todo is a freeware back up software that will allow you to completely backup your whole drive onto an external disk and then reinstate it at a later date.

thats what paul gadd ( gary glitter ) thought
but it wasn't just a bit of pirate software that was the issue on his pc ( BBC News | UK | Glitter jailed over child porn ) and rightly so i would have shopped him in a heartbeat

pirate software i don't care about thats up to them

as already mentioned just backup the hard drive and if your worried about a bit of dodgy sofware get rid of it before it goes in for repair

the only software i use is office 2010, LR & CS5 & they are all legit.........its just a few albums i had on their & u torrent, which have been removed. laptop got collected Tuesday & hopefully will be back next Tuesday with its new fan / cooling system.
