Thanks all. The colour was actually more intense; very green. And I was trying to get that sense of the way the water dominates the place - I really didn't realise how high it came to the walkways and promenades.

Last time I went to Venice it was flooded, I mean really flooded! Sometimes San Marco Square floods a little and duck boards are mounted on stands to make impromptu bridges and raised walk ways. The water rose so high they were all floating about. Still have the memories of wading waste deep to the hotel, memories I'd rather not have!
