A quiet, relaxing view for the eyes. But there's something I'm not able to decipher: why is the lower part of the trunks so clear? It does not seem to be due to light, but to human or animal intervention.

Probably, yes. Or maybe not (sorry, for my limited understanding of English). They look white-ish for around a meter from the ground up and I was asking myself why. It's not something that has to do with the photograph itself, is must be something concerning the real trees.
Right. The trees are whitewashed with lime, usually right before the spring comes, in order to stave off the bugs or other nasties crawling up and damage the tree. Good for protection against caterpillars, I am told.
