Really. I always thought they'd made that name up for the film. Aha, "Also in 2001, Zhongdian County in northwestern Yunnan officially renamed itself Shangri-La County."

Thanks Pete and I will be sharing couple of more photos during my trip later this week. Per my understanding it officially called Zhongdian instead. But somehow people start calling Shangri-La
