Took a few hours this morning to drive around and snap some local stuff near to home.
Figured I'd head down to historic Carlsbad, and capture some shots of the original railway building, Old Santa Fe Depot.
First thing to catch my eye however, was a very eloquent and thoughtful piece, on the wall of the car park...
Image cross processed in Photoshop and cropped.
After pondering that for a while, I then went on to shoot the intended target, Old Santa Fe Depot.
The depot was built in 1907 (replacing the first built in 1887) by the Arizona Eastern Railway and also served as a telegraph office, Post Office, Well Fargo Express Office, and general store. Served in later years as a shipping point for local fruit, vegetables, and flowers. Closed in 1960, it is now the home of the Visitor's Information Center.
I've taken to using the tripod, shooting at ISO100 f16, and using 'Live View' mode on the camera to compose shots. A little bit of polarizer added to deepen the colors. The mini spirit level I got for Chrimbo is proving to be a fantastic purchase
After the rail depot, I headed North to Oceanside, hoping to get some nice shots of the harbor - but the fog came in and rather spoiled my plans, so I diverted for a quick break...
The harbor (or habour) will have to wait for another day, and better light.
