I picked up this book over the weekend and I am so happy I did. Its is an excellent survey of a tiny fraction of the Museum of Modern Art's photography collection. The 100 photos were selected by John Szarkowski, longtime curator of the photography collection at MOMA. He provides a brief essay on each photograph and I can tell you his writing is erudite and compelling. It's an older book (copyright 1973) and Szarkowski is no longer with us (d. 2007), but Looking at Photographs is well-worth seeking out.
