The scratches on the surface of the whatever it is suggest a metallic or plastic substrate. Looks like it has some vague letters and numbers running verticle down the left. I'm guessing its part of a publicly displayed poster or advertisement of some kind that has been marred by delinquents.

Tricky Hamish. Not so much the SC (it was a very sunny day and the effect of the coating isn't obvious as none were really into the sun or had elements that might reveal its attributes) but the framing as its field of view doesn't correspond to any frame lines or parallax correction. So I had to preview a lot to make sure I got things right especially close-ups. Depth of field is quite different to the 35mm too maybe more of a contrast thing at the limits though. Need to get used to it but it won't replace the 35 as a favourite.

yes, I can see that being a frustration ... as i said, you might just have to buy a leica cl, minolta cle or voigtlander r3a for it, they all have 40mm frame lines
