Lytro Camera Light Field Camera Announced

Tech Support (and Marketing)
Lytro have announced the first incarnation of the light Field camera.
Interesting looking bit of kit I think, and it certainly seems to tick the right boxes for what is my perseption of its target market - facebookers tweeters and generally people who don't ever print images... the snap shot consumer!
Looks nice and small, very simple to use by the look of the specs ... It obvious that this is not meant to replace traditional cameras, just offer what appears to be a fun alternative!

Whether or not i would find a use for regularly or not I'm not sure, but i'd certainly like to have a play with one!

There seems to be a lot of chat about the "resolution" around the internet ... This seems a bit daft to me ... It doesn't seem to be meant to produce printable images! The interactive box on the demo images seem to be as big as 500px square ... which I suppose is big enough to show an image on a website!

"A bit of fun" is my conclusion really ...

Specs
8x optical zoom
f/2 lens
8/16gb internal memory for 350/750 images
1.46" touch screen display .. this thing is tiny!

There is still a lot of confusion for me ...
If i were to get one how would I show the pictures on the forum?
What constitutes a "HD Image"... 720px height? it should be ... it thats what they are saying, but i cant find any demos bigger than 500px square ....

Anyway

Lots of pics to play with here https://www.lytro.com/living-pictures/291

Hi Hamish,It has a micro USB cable to connect to a MAC. Windows environment is under development. It is a toy but a nice idea for kids if it is not too expensive! You know you want one for your collection!

I do Milan, but there are other things I want more unfortunately ...
Canon 5d/Tse lens for the obvious
Nikon j1 for its speed and video and long tele with my current Nikon gear ...
Damn this material desire!

i would assume you either need a flash plugin or HTML5 to display on website, looking at how they show there example images it is with flash to display.....

should keep all those ipad/iphone users happy!!

Well yes, it occurs to me that they need to be looking at how a lot of people use twitter and Facebook of they are going to tout this to the users!
HTML5 would be a much better idea
I guess (looking at the spec) that the images will be hosted with Lytro ... At least to begin with!
For us it will probably mean some bright spark on vbulitin.org coming up with a BB code

Going to the Dark Side Hamish? Why not but a Nikon PC lens? I also have a wish list but no funs. Just bought a Nikon 70-300 VR and want a 16-85 to give a 2 pack do almost everything kit. Then add a macro lens then................Back to no funds!
