Magpie Mine

Tucked away near the vollage of Sheldon, lies the Magpie Lead Mine. A visit yesterday after a couple of weeks of kicking my heels, due to man cold (the worst) and crappy weather.










The place has an interesting history, including charges of murder.

Yes, very good series. Old industrial places can be very photogenic. Wonderful compositions and toning, Nick.

Yep, excellent series and in particular the first one, which really does it for me. It may sound weird but I almost wish the mine wasn't in the first pic as the tones of the foreground and sky are that good.

Thanks for the comments Beth, actually though thats the correct perspective it slopes right to left, I could have sorted it by using the skew tool, but that would have altered the true perspectiveof the landscape.

Nice set Nick. A huge number of Cornish miners went to the Northern counties to work ,dig and open up lead mines, when the price of tin plummeted down here. As they went the world over.

Hi Julian, indeed they did and the mine also had a Cornish pumping house with a steam pump

Yes Cornwall still has the Camborne school on Mines , now merged with Exeter university. Of course many of it's student today leave the county to put their learnt skills into practise.
