MANUAL LENSES + ADAPTERS

I thought I'd start a new thread for this one...

I'm a huge fan of mounting classic glass on my Canon 5Dc nee 40D...

I know Hamish dabbles as He bought an m42-canon chipped adapter from me which is how I came to be here at RPF...

I currently use;

Asahi Pentax m 135mm (pk mount)
Jupiter 9 85mm f/2 (m42)
Asahi Takumar 50mm f/1.4 (m42)
Asahi Takumar 28mm f/3.5 (m42)
Helios 44 58mm f/2 (m42) friend has it at the mo.

What are your views, loves, hates, favourites, issues...

I hope this thread runs as it is a broad subject and I'm sure we can help to convert the non believers!

I was going to upload an image or two to start but I'll leave the honours to Hamish to see what He's made of his recent purchase..

I'm sorry to say I've not taken any since the first ones posted here http://www.realphotographersforum.com/your-kit/3628-my-first-canon-photos-taken.html

I do like a bit of adapting lenses though!
Nikon 2 Erm ... Nikon Real Photographers Forum - Page Not Found
Chaika to LTM http://www.realphotographersforum.com/content/424-how-modify-industar-69-lens-ltm-mounting.html

I'm currently thinking over my options on adapting the hasselblad lens to the Nikon ... I'm thinking some sort of tilt/shift adapter might be fun!

Did you see this http://www.realphotographersforum.com/content/593-worlds-smallest-view-camera.html

I also have plans of fitting my voigtlander bessamatic lens to my Nikon d3

And yeah, m42 agogo! The asahi lens is wonderful I also have a ifbaflex lens which I think is a rebranded ziess of some sort that I'm yet to try!

I'll wait for you to have a little play before uploading my efforts,

Interested to see your adaptions, my friend was toying with bronica etrs lenses on his Nikon by means of attaching Nikon body caps but bottled it when he realised some permanent alterations (glue + step up rings) would be involved.. shame, He's a very clever boy and I think He would of pulled off fantastic results.

As a newbie to photography, I find these old cameras extremely charming, I haven't used any as yet but can see myself purchasing many in the future...

What kind of collectability is in the marketplace?

I have a few film lenses for my Oly.... My favourite bieng the 'classic' OM 50mm f1.8 ....love that lens,
That's just made me interested in seeking other fittings for my Oly... Hmmm what can I get!?

Collectible cameras?
Tough one really...
I like voigtlanders my self as they are often inexpensive but well made
The vito b being a good example
Here are a few of mine Real Photographers Forum - Hamish Gill - Blogs
A have about 65 in total .. Mainly nikons and voigtlanders although by no means exclusively!

You finds what you likes ...
I know a chap who collects kodak retinas which are very nice
But I also know somone who collects bacolite cameras ... Which is a bit odd of you ask me, but each I thier own! ;)

I'm looking at making a tilt adapter with a sink plunger, but not got the bits yet ... :)

As like Dan, I have an Olympus and therefore with their OM lenses being so good I have a few manual lenses ... gotta say Love them, my favourite being a 28mm

I did like the click of the aperture ring

Yes, it's so clicky!! Probably the loudest aperture I've heard ! :D
I'm looking to getting some sort of OM fit wide angle and most certainly looking into the zuiko 1.4.
You can pick them up for around 70 squid. Bargain for a fast lens!
I have a standard adapter off eBay but I've heard these auto focus confirm adaptors are quite good!!
Priority is an ultra wide though...... Don't suppose you know of any Peter?? :)

£70!!!
Mine went for £28 at auction after a month of not selling 'BIN' £55

It's a jaunty click though, bounces lightly but definately between stops.

I do wish I had kept it now as it was lovely as a reversed macro at the end of anything really.

I had fallen for the Takumar 1.4 and the Zuiko got dumped just like Helene. I want Her back too.

I've only gone to 28mm in manual, Asahi Takumar, so I couldn't give any stunning new insights..

Again the Zuiko OM 28mm is renowned for it's sweet spot. How wide do you want?

Budget also! I'm sure theres a 16mm Zeiss for the well heeled..

Chinon/Fujinon (and subsiduaries) are cheap as chips normally, not the worst lenses ever made. There's bound to be 21's 24's somewhere in their range...

You bugger, You got me curios now!

My Sigma 15-30 is a hefty lens to be lugging around pleasure shooting....

A smaller pocket rocket prime *** multicoated Japanese hand grenade is on my wish list.

And now with my 5D... Made for full frame

The chipped adapters are well worth the extra 3/4/5/6/ pounds

OM - Canon is one of the pricier adapters, I had to get one from Hawaii (post, not pick up unfortunately)

£25 after post, but I was not so clued up then as I am now, you could probably find one chipped for £15-£20. Location dependant.

I'm gonna go have a look at the situation.

I want wide.....like wide wide! Pref not fish eye, something along the lines of the well known sigma 10-20, but having near same effect in my 4/3 Oly.
The widest I have is the standard kit lens at moment (14-42mm) which at its widest is the to a 28mm (35mm format). So taking that into account .
I've looked, (and that's all I can do....... And drool) into the 7-14mm which is a phenomenal bit of extreme wide angle picture supreme quality lens porn .... but for a whopping 1400 smackeroonies...... I think I'm gonna have to try it once only.... With Santa :D:D
Even some cheap extreme wideys on fleabay are going quite pricey purely on the perspective that they pump out, and even then, it'd have to be an OM fit for moi. I'm not fussy..... Promise!! :D:D

I vow to myself now, that I will never spend that kind of money on ANYTHING! unless it was ESSENTIAL to my survival...

I'd be MUCH happier with a £500 'nearly top of the table' lens and the £1000 left over for taking that lens to the world..

Until the £1500 magically appears I know where I stand !!

A month at the russian flea markets with £1500, that's what I'd do...

How many songs with 'Dream' in the title can You name in 30 seconds!!!

Dan, you are chasing an impossible dream!
You want wide cheap you need to sell your gear and get a canikon and one of them sigmas

I love chasing dreams Hamush! It's when people like you come along and destroy it by telling me the truth!! :D:D:D!! Lol.
Look, there are plenty of options for my Oly, 7-14mm (which, yeah okay, cost is an issue) then there's the 9-18mm, (which is...... About half the price.... So dreaming) and then there's the 11-22mm (which is about the same)
So dream on DD! :D:D
Oh, you can get a second hand discontinued sigma 10-20mm for a 4/3!! Get in!!
I cannot betray my Oly :D:D:D

20mm equiv though... Wide, but not the 14mm equiv you are dreaming about!
That sigma is 15ish mm on a canikon! ;)
I'm not trying to ruin your dreams, I'm being a realist ;)
