[Brian Moore]

Jan Palach was a student who set himself on fire in Prague's Wenceslas Square to protest the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Josef Toufar was a priest who was tortured and beaten to death by Czech communist authorities to force him to confess that he had rigged a "miracle" that several parishioners had claimed to have seen at his church.
