Mission San Luis Rey de Francia - Oceanside CA

X-Pro1 and 55-200 Lens with Hoya CPL

What a smashing shot, Chris! I'm not a huge fan of the crystal clarity that digital images so often render, but this shot is just stunningly attractive. The white is almost fluorescent and the shadows look lovely--almost 3D--against it. Framed by the deep blue and the green its a fabulous fotie.

Thanks chaps :)

They have only just finished restoring the building, so this is the first time in months that there hasn't been scaffolding on the front!

The new white paintwork is super clean, and you can even see it picking up the reflected light from the tiles on the pavement.

I have tried and tried to get a good shot of the Mission, and this is the first time I got something I was happy with.

Lighting was good, and provided some interesting contrast across the face - I used a long lens and shot from further back, and I used a CPL filter to deepen the already blue sky.

I used NIK ColorFX to balance the shadows using Pro Contrast, and tweak the foliage.

Even with the longer focal length, I had to do a very slight perspective keystone correction in PS to square up the walls.

I actually waited for the people Glenn - I saw them diverging from the doorway and wanted to catch them on either side against the white walls :)

Thanks guys :)
