More Photography Prejudice

They'll be asking for a fee to shoot there next, I know in Worcester Cathedral they require you to pay if you use a tripod, costs about six quid if I remember, but you don't have to pay if you don't use one and other places have similar requirements/requests for donations etc. for photography. If you use a non DSLR they don't much care.

This though is verging on the ridiculous, they be banning buskers from using guitars with six strings next :D

It'll end up like Egypt - where you need to by a stills license yo shoot each historical monument you visit, and then a video license if you want to shoot video.

WTF!! What a load of ****ing ****!!
How do you 'ban' a certain type of camera? Res is irrelivent. I have a 12.1mp sensor in my DSLR, and so do alot of other compacts if not more resolution.
If anything, either ban photography all together (if they wanted to be so ridiculous)
How pathetic!! This sort of **** gets right up my goat!!

Reminds me when I went to Cardiff Museum few weeks ago, I asked can I take photographs, I was directed to this desk where I was told I can but not in the Art gallery and no flash photography which fair enough I understand their reasons for that, next thing I know I am given a blue badge to wear to show permission was given and seriously you should have seen the declaration I had to fill in.

I do understand reasons for why they do it, but it's the unfortunate tarnish brush that they happily paint over those hoobiests, and folks who desire to document objects etc, for the genuine capture of memory than a fraud/profit making scam that we feel subjected to. Very sad, very sad indeed..
Sorry to here that laurie.... Must of been annoying.

I had to do that in Imperial War Museum in Manchester Laurie...........

I have had to sign disclaimers before as well. I think one of the problems is digital is so easy to publish now Film was harder to put in the public domain. I agree Dan about the difference between DSLR and compact is perhaps in MP not a lot different but the difference in quality between a RAW file to a Jpeg does make a difference. The other advantage of a DSLR is the glassware is normally less of a compromise Not that I agree with it but I can see the reasons for it.

Apparently Millenium centre in cardiff now has applied a rule about DSLR's they dont want photos taken within or of the building if your carrying a DSLR your considered a pro, yet this is the crazy part take of a large lens pop on a small lens and your ok wtf is that all about lol

Much of this is economics, someone has seen the opportunity to charge people for taking pictures of their building, even if it abuts a public space. Fine if you are entering and want to take photos of the interior, feel free to ask the photographer, pro or amateur to sign in for 'permission to photograph' and make a small charge if you feel but be warned irrespective of the permission you have given me, if you charge me I WILL exercise MY right as OWNER of the PHOTOGRAPHS I HAVE taken with MY camera and use them for whatever purpose I DEEM suitable for them but rest assured you will NOT benefit from the them in any shape.

Once permission has been given, irrespective of whether charged or not, you have been granted permission, and the photos you take are yours, if there are exclusions for use of the photos you take in the permissions personally I would say ****off. Sorry you can't have it both ways You have charged me a fee to take photos therefore I can take them and do what I like with them.

Now I'm no legal beagle but in my opinion permission is permission, Lets be honest how are they going to police it when you have disappeared into the interweb? Have you tried to see who is using your photos that are posted on the web, I'm sure we all add copyright but can you trace everything you have posted I can't.....

Hope this doesn't sound too aggressive but I get really miffed about it, I was stopped in London by the police for taking photos of a hotel in Paddington, simply because I had a DSLR, LF and MF Film cameras and a Tripod, well two actually when there were Chinese, and Arabs taking photos of the same bloody building and they were left to do it. Rant Over and time for a sup of me wine :D:D

The Problem here Dave is that they will claim it's public access land though privately owned therefore...blah blah blah...we are sort of in the realms of vehicle clamping with this now. I think NO SIGNS no problems........and I can Scream Assault loudly too :D

I don't think you sound aggressive Kev. I think what your saying is pretty bang on there.
No good buying a car and then being told you can't drive it the way you want to.
Why now? Why is it that the most ridiculous regs/things onnounced in life are bieng stupendously conformed by some idiot(s) without the understanding that it's not good.
I suppose that's where the clarity of Mandelbrot's theory becomes more and more crystal as life goes on...
Look at health and safety... How far that's gone, privacy, laws, democracy, development, society, technology, cameras god dam it!!! And we as human beings in this society today wonder what's going on, hey?!.
Unfortunely, it is a it is, the snow has started rolling... Years to come the conventional camera could be band, a loop hole may be found that disallows anyone to take a single picture anywhere. I shan't be suprised folks.

Yeah Millennium Centre externally can be viewed from a public place I myself have got a folder full of shots of the building inside and outside, all taken with A DSLR with a small lens an 18-55mm as thats the lens I prefer when taking photos of buildings etc, mine were taken about two months ago in daytime, a person I know went in evening time when a concert was taking place and was told no photos inside or of the building thank you!

Concerts however take place throughout day and evening and I have never seen any signs when I have visited, the person I know went two nights ago, so I shall take a trip down there and see what they have to say, I shall be looking for any signs but I will also ask security there what the problem is with DSLR cameras, or as they worded it "Big Cameras"

I personally cannot see how they can police people taking shots of the external part of the building, the public area surrounds the Centre and its massive with many people strolling about there daily, I shall pop a photo up later showing the area in front of the centre to see if I can show you the scale of the public area it really is massive

Then we have The Senedd building just around the corner from this one a photographers nightmare, because the Senedd houses the Welsh Assembly Government there are strict security checks to enter the building which yes I understand once you get passed all the security and searches etc you are allowed to take photographs in certain areas, BUT outside gets better if you stand upon any of the slate floor outside to take a photo of the external part of the building, you get approached by Men in black suits with ear pieces in not the normal security in the building I may add, these guys I think they reckon they are the SAS or something! They will insist you move or they will move you!, apparantly the slates belong to the building therfore are private is what they say.

What they dont realise is if you walk down steps about 30 foot onto boardwalks which is then public access you get a better shot anyways lol, they do though try and move people from there too, but a lot of photographers I know have argued like hell with them and continued clicking away, really is a crazy place lol

Image 1 your safe in this area its public excuse the lamposts lol

LMAO at you write up of the senedd building Laurie, Men in black, SAS you watch far to many movies.............

i know what your saying though, what difference does it make if you on the steps or not, you still get the same photo of the same building at the same time, its just a slightly different angle. I you wanna get close, stick a 400mm lens. The rules are pointless and achieve nothing IMO

Seriously go there and stand on teh steps these guys are mental lol, black suits white shirts black ties with earpieces you can spot them a mile off, dunno who the hell they thin they are though their words " you will move or we will remove you" lolol gets better go after dark and then the tripod police appear lol
