Inspired by @Beth Anthony - I've been looking for a retro sci-fi robot for a while now - something to put in the home office.

Finally found one yesterday, in a store in Solana Beach - and he's just as I imagined!

Meet Mr Roboto - clearly the Japanese cousin of Robby the Robot, from Forbidden Planet

Robby used to scare the cr@p out of me as a kid - in fact Forbidden Planet used to give me nightmares. Here's the original Robby from the film for comparison.

My Mr Roboto winds-up with the big key, then walks around 'menacingly' whilst sparks crackle inside his helmet :D
 
sweet! i love them both! the wind up key and sparks are cool, you'll have to get an action shot of that. you have no idea, you just made my day. love the shiny red one, but the black one looks pretty cool too. and maybe a little more menacing. forbidden planet is awesome. i've been looking for a good robby. or gort from the day the earth stood still.

Ah ha, too funny - I love sci-fi - started with 20,000 leagues under the sea at age 7, and I never looked back.

Here's the box art - even this is just brilliantly retro - they knew just how to get me to buy it! :D

That is beautiful ... though admittedly it's beauty is reserved to a certain niche, of which I am definitely one GEEKS OF THE WORLD UNITE !!!!
 
what a great toy, had no idea you could still get clockwork toys. looks a great thing to torment the cat with.

That robo-dog looks like he could be trouble! ;-)

Seems to be an RPF theme developing here... i.e. we're all just big kids! :D :D :D
