Mr Smith

Go Julian. We not only get good photography from you, but we also get really interesting subjects. Now I want to read his poems, see his paintings. Interesting face and movement. Well done, Jules.

Thank you Rob. Unpublished a shed full of paintings and piles of poems. Although someone has taken his poems and hoping to put them together to publish. Campbell cannot do the ordinary stuff in life. He is from the Glasgow tenements. Born late 1940's with quite a diverse life. Lived on the streets of Soho and mixed, and just rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ginsberg , Bacon and those beat characters in London at that time, although not an integral part of that group. Found himself in Franco's jail for a time. I was eight years old when I came across a tent in the woods, near our home he was living in the tent , eating blackberries and whatever he could muster to get by. . He is 30 or more years my senior, but somehow our paths kept crossing. Painted together from time to time. He returned to the outer Hebrides , had a family and has now been in Cornwall on his own once again which has been for many years now. Complex character but we get on, or at least I am a good listener. :)

I enjoyed the story behind the pictures a lot and the pictures too are just up my alley. Number 2 and 4 are outstanding I'd say. This is what photography, ( at least for me ) is all about. Telling!!! :)

Thank you Ivar. Very much my cup of green tea also. I do quite a lot of this at times, but I respect peoples privacy as well. I initially thought I'd come away with very little as shooting the Merrill's without much light is not easy.

Stunningly good Julian and an interesting back story. I like them all but I love the first two. A perfect illustration on use of DoF in environmental portraiture and the energy in them, while different, is great.

Do I recall some other images you posted of this gentleman?

Thank you Pete. Yes what a great memory you have. If you remember it was commented, possibly by yourself that there were none of his face. So here they are.

that second shot - speaking with his hands - wonderful
