my glass i found: Tranquility on Terminal Island

The Gerald Desmond Bridge that connects Terminal Island to Long Beach was closed one night causing horrendous traffic and consequent detours. Problem is, once you're on Terminal Island you have precious few escape routes.

So on this evening, finding myself temporarily marooned on the island with few options, I decided to get off the beaten path and explore a little.

To my delight I found a peaceful area with the view you see here. I was trespassing of course, but I was doing no harm and I came away with this souvenir.

I shot this image with my Olympus XA and Memories brand 200 ASA film.

Nicely lit scene. Last time I tried to shoot there, I was immediately cornered by threatening longshoreman and a few security guards.

Thanks Darren and Paul.

I've taken quite a few shots on TI and haven't yet been hassled. However, there are areas I'd love to shoot but I know I WOULD be hassled if I tried to get close enough for the pictures I'd like to take. In the image above, for example, those cranes in the background are magnificent close up, especially when lit up at night. But I haven't found a good spot to photograph them from yet.

Thanks again.

A boat?

I'd echo the above! very well exposed!
theres looks to be a tiny bit of movement in the shot which i actually really like!
It looks very slightly soft focus... but there also seems to be a flag blowing around which sorta adds to the depth/interest of the image a bit for me ... not sure why, guess its a part of that tranquil feel!

Thanks a lot, Hamish. There is indeed a flag atop that vessel or whatever it is, and its fluttering in the slight breeze of the evening. I balanced the camera on a railing to steady it. I'm guessing shutter speed was a second or so. I probably had the lens wide open with my focus on the foreground. This might account for the softness in the background.
