Whippin' (above) at the Oktoberfest at The Phoenix Club in Anahiem, California last Sunday. This lady--one of the dancers--climbed on the table and began cracking her whip in time to the music,...each whiplash sounding for all the world like like a sharp firecracker.

And Flinchin'! (below) These folks sat at the table next to me and seemed to be having a good time under threat of whiplash! Beer helped I'm sure. (It certainly relaxed me.)

Canon F-1 and 28mm Canon FD lens. Fuji Neopan 400 film metered at 3200 with the intent of "pushing" it, and developed in Rodinal. (However, I believe I did not give it enough development time.)

If you go around spelling Oktoberfest incorrectly you'll certainly be doing a spot of flinchin'!! ;)

Yes, the shadow areas are a bit dense in the 'prints' aren't they but not bad for Neopan which I never associate with being particularly good for push-processing. If it wasn't for the story and the two images being side-by-side I wonder if you'd ever guess what was going on. I like that element of them. I also like the fact that you have caught the flinchees (!) leaning the same way as the 'bunting'. Nice. :)

Pete, I thank you for correcting my spelling. Fixed now, so no reason that I know of for the Germans to flog me now.

The Neopan at 3200 was an experiment. A failed one I think, at least for now. I did a semi-stand process in Rodinal for 90 minutes, but I think if I do it again (push 400 to 3200--probably Tri-X next time, though) I'll do a more conventional development process at 1:25 or 1:50 dilution.

Wish I could say I planned the shot of the flinchees to be captured as they leaned with the bunting. Alas, that was just another bit of serendipity. Thanks again, Pete!

Dancers with whips on tables... interesting...
