Critique Welcomed My New Friend...

Steady on Brian, that's three new friends in almost as many months!

What a fabulous shot. Love the colours. Love the composition. Love the murky background. And what a wonderful pose.

Two things spring to mind; Vermillion Sands by JG Ballard, and Mad Max / Sci Fi scene of a new world colonist.

Thanks a lot, Pete. I do see the Vermillion Sands/Mad Max comparison.

Often just lucky, Julian. But I thank you for the kind words.
I am pretty certain luck is not as consistent. Many of your film images and from others on here send me, to really challenge
why I use a digital camera. Sadly cost and also I'd never be able to carry enough film for the amount of shots I take.

Thank you, @Julian de'Courcy. To your points:
  • I find that digital photography induces picture taking. In other words, I'm more apt to snap something on impulse when I'm using my 7D. So, in a way, for me, shooting with film cameras results in fewer images.
  • I think I took about 30 rolls of film on holiday last year. I unboxed them so they packed pretty easily. Actually my camera gear took up more room than my film. (And the largest bits of camera gear I took were my 7D and a pair of lenses for it.)
  • As to cost of film, there's no getting around the fact that buying and developing and printing can be a costly endeavor. I limit my costs by purchasing film when its on sale as much as possible, processing my own black and white, and when I have to send color film for processing I get only processing done,...no prints or scans. However, its still money out of pocket that I wouldn't be spending if I were shooting digital exclusively. But that's worth it to me personally because I just so love the look of film as well as the challenges inherent in using it.
Thanks again, Julian!

Love the muted palette it's produced - but the sand storm look is the real winner
