I sought flare by shooting into the sun as it was just peeking over the roof of the former Torrance Library building. None to be had.

I'd take it back Brian - you bought a toy camera not a real one, it's clearly not doing what you'd expect. Besides that I like the bite out of the building that the sun has taken and the tones / grain. It's reminiscent of Polaroid I think.
