either drop-in, the Lee Filters used to be the dogs nuts at one time??

or screw-in, apparently there are various variable ND filters that work like a pola. which ones are the best, or perhaps tolerable?

we don't need ND 400, just 1-4 stops is fine. but no colour cast or optical distortion please:confused:

Peter - I went with a set from Tiffen

They have an excellent reputation in the movie business for their ND glass - and the set covered the range of ND options for everyday use.

77MM INDIE PLUS HV KIT

They are the screw on type - couldn't be doing with the whole slot-in system thing

No color cast - does what it says on the tin.

I still have some money :)

Seriously I would like to get a graduated ND kit but the cost for even fairly cheap ones is high. Is it HiTech who make some lower costs ones that seem to have a fairly good reputation?

i went with singh-ray, though i think the holder is a tiffen or off brand filter holder.. i've got a lee nd filter also, don't see much difference between it and my singh-ray filters. no color casts with either, some minor vignetting with the filter holder on my 5d mk ii and 17-40mm lens around 17-20mm.

just keeping tabs here; we are looking for the solid type not the grads. mainly for students to be able to shoot wide open in daylight with flash. since they are all going to be using their own cameras, there will be a huge variety of filter sizes. so I figured most cost-effctive was a slot-in or drop-in system.
