Critique Required Nephew

TRYING to grab a few shots that may be worth framing for my sister of the nephew :confused::confused::confused:

Portraits aint as easy at they look, would love to know your thoughts

These look pretty good to me!

No2 works best - nice non-distracting background. No1 looks a bit busy and colourful which draws us past the lad.
 
I would go for number 2 as well. As the background is much further away than in the other images it is a bit more blurred and gives more separation. What is also nice is that you are also very close to your nephew (relationship-wise) and it shows in the engagement that there is between you and him in the image.
 
Daren I kind of think that anyone of those would be be very good and I'd find it very hard to make a choice. it may well be worth playing in Photoshop and enhancing certain areas , maybe graduations you can never tell unless you experiment. Sometimes or most times it does not work other times it can be quite profound in a good way. that is the great thing with digital it can be experimented with so much and always revert back to the original file. I personally think that portraits of the whole person without props is exceedingly difficult and you have done a really good job of it in all the pictures.
