New(ish) Nikon to accompany my old Nikon

Having enjoyed the Nikon F4S I bought a little while ago, and collecting a few lenses for it (80-200F2.8 , 20-35F2.8, 35-105F3.5, and a 50F1.8) I figured why not buy a digital that can utilize the same lenses.

After much research, pondering, and penny counting - I bought a basically unused Nikon D800 that had less than 2600 shutter count. Since it is a full frame, I can compose / shoot the same with both cameras.

Never having been a Nikon guy previously, I do like the FE that I recently acquired as well as the 35/2 that I added after the initial purchase.

I'm not sure that there will ever be a Nikon digital in my "collection" (and while I'm not intentionally "collecting" I don't know what else to call this pile).

Have you shot anything with the D800 yet? How do you like the handling? Congrats on your new baby...

I took it out for a quick outing today - and I do really like it. For what I paid for the camera ($450) I am quite happy with the results.

I like having a film camera and a digital that uses the same lens mount. I also have done this with my Minolta Alpha-7 & Minolta 7D - and those two are really, really close in how they handle as the bodies are almost identical.

I suppose the Nikon F5 is probably closer in handling to the D800 - but I like knobs so I bought the F4s. There is a F5 local to me for a good price ($400) so I am going to resist the urge as I have too many cameras as it is.

Here are some results - they are just "test shots." Very little/no editing.

Those are some worthy shots Paul!

I decided that I'd like to be able to mount Leica m lenses on my Sony e mount and added one of these to my pile of stuff.

This allows me to use the TTArtisan manual focus 50/1.4 as well as the Voigtländer 35/1.4 Nokton on my 42mp Sony a7R3.

Like Gary I am impressed with your organisational skills Paul. I have quite few adapters myself but scattered around several drawers. You put me to shame! They are incredibly useful though and allow quite a bit of mixing and matching between systems.
