Nikon Camera & lens shortages

Just a bit of news for you all, the Nikon factory in Thailand is out of action at present & from the letters it will not be up & running until March 2012 ! The D3100 / D5100 / D7000 & D300s cameras will be in very very short supply and may even run out before Christmas.There are are a number of lenses effected to such as 18-105 / 24/120 / 16-85 to name a few.If you are thinking of any of these or are after one best get in there sharpish to dissapointment.It has also effected Sony , Panasonic & Ricoh in the same way so they are short to.

Canon also having production issues in Japan

The Canon EF 500mm f/4.0 L IS II USM Lens, Canon EF 600mm f/4.0 L IS II USM Lens, and Canon EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM Ext 1.4x Lens have been delayed indefinitely.

The Canon EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM Ext 1.4x Lens was originally expected to be (formally) announced on February 07, 2011 and scheduled for release later this year. This launch has also been delayed indefinitely. A release date for this lens will be announced when it is known.

We appologize for the inconvenience caused by these delays and will continue to make every effort to launch the new lenses. We look forward to your continued patronage.

I would have expected the 500 and 600 lenses to be in the hands of the pro sports photogs in time for the London Olympics - as that would be THE key date in the calendar for Canon looking to sell/promote these super Teles.

If they can't deliver for that, then they really miss-out on a huge opportunity in 2012.
