No Aurora Last Night

Spent a good part of last night out near the Rocky Mountain Front hoping to photograph a beautiful aurora. No aurora graced the skies. But I did get these. Maybe I'll see a nice aurora next time?

1. Orion, Taurus and the Pleides are slowly sinking toward the mountains.

2. The waning gibbous moon rising through a veil of thin clouds. If this was the sun rising the two bright spots on either side would be sun dogs. So, since this is the moon, these must be moon dogs.

These really are very, very atmospheric Ralph. And I like the idea of Moon Dogs!

Two friends have just returned from N Sweden where they went specifically to see the aurora. They said it was spectacular and visible very night they were there. They have many picture but I've not seen them yet. Looking forward to it. I hope you get a show too this year.

Beautiful. I didn't see any aurora, but I did see Mars, Jupiter and Venus, all in one sky. Apparently Saturn made an appearance too, but I was sleeping by then.

Venus is getting closer and closer to Jupiter. I think on Monday night they will be horizontally aligned. On Tuesday they will be closest. Then on March 25 the moon will join in nicely. Hoping for clear skies.

Northern lights givin a show tonight in Northern Scotland according to the BBC (as of 22:20 UK) :D

Can't see from here mind.....maybe facing west isn't helping, oh and the blinds are closed, :D:D

Nice shots too BTW Ralph, and Moon Dawgs :D

Great shot Ralph.
Hoping to see something this neck of the woods.... Or have I missed it?

My Sun 3D app on my iPad says another solar event may bring more lights Monday night. Good luck getting clear skies!

That's of the Moon Dogs don't get him. You know what they say, "When Venus and Saturn and the moon do collude, the hounds will rise...". Or something like that anyway! ;)
I hear brush dogs (coyotes) and rarely a wolf around here. Hope they don't get me. Hopefully the moon dawgs will stay in the clouds.
