I wonder if his moderating approach will have an impact beyond either hiding the comments, skewing the responses or just moving the perpetrators elsewhere to claim that the other forum is closed to expert criticism?! I think Hamish's approach of real names and creating a real community has worked well. Good article though.
 
I'm a moderator on the biggest woodworking forum. It was started based on a real name and play nice model. It has been around for many years...continues to grow and I think it's primarily because of the real name requirement. It's just a little more difficult to act like a jerk when you have to actually sign your name to every post. It doesn't stop some though. That's why moderators and member reporting issues is also important.
 
Interesting article Rob. The Photography Industry needs to look at itself, particularly the big camera makers and how they market their goods and 'photography'. There are more cameras being sold than ever before but most are not because of an interest in photography.
