Nutone

Touring prospective houses with Son #1 today, we came across this wonderful old piece - in a 60's house.

It's a 1960s-era Nutone intercom base station - with built-in valve AM/FM radio

You can talk to people at the front door or in any of the bedrooms, via a wall mounted intercom - and also pipe music to each room from the main radio.

So Jetsons! :D

A wonderful shot / feel / story.
Technology that seems new may not be as innovative as some think!!! 1960's? Crumbs. What a great image of a great device. Why can't we go back to those retro styles, they had so much more character!

Thanks chaps! :)

I was supposed to be taking reference shots of each room during the house hunting, but couldn't resist going arty on this item when we spotted it in the kitchen.

Laurence - couldn't agree with you more - Nutone are still in business, and their current stuff if all plasticy and lacks that character.

Hamish - very impressive - and even more so in that it still worked!

So do a lot of people over there have room to room intercom then ... Fancy yanks with big houses! We just shout in my house!

I've seen a few houses with them Hamish - but not really very many.

I think they were the thing to have back in the day - kind of a status symbol item.
