After a stunning fall day, swmbo and I went down to Oceanside to catch the sunset.

I put the camera on a tripod and fitted a 3 stop grad ND to balance the sky and the water a little better - ISO200 and a longish exposure with a little negative EV compensation thrown in to keep the blacks black.

X-Pro1 and 18mm Lens

Thanks Brian :)

Thanks Rob - lovely still evening, and the water came out really nicely

I've been researching reversed ND grads - might have been useful here by the looks of things

Rather than being darkest at the top, they are darkest in the middle (where the sky is brightest)

Looks like it might be worth a punt

Well, I pressed buy it now on a UK produced reversed 3 Stop ND grad from Hitech - looks the same as Singh Ray but cheaper, so we'll see what arrives in the mail.

Ages since I used a Cokin type filter holder - in fact the last one i had came from Boots the Chemist - that's how long ago it was!

Thanks Pete & Beth - it was more that the sky was too bright compared to the water area Pete - I have an inverse ND grad on the way, so will have a play and report back
