Okavango dawn #2

This photo was taken a bit earlier than the previous one.

Just before the sun managed to break through the fog it lit up the whole area with an intense yellow light, if looked like everything was glowing!

I find it amazing that of the many people who visit the Okavango delta every year so few get up early. On my last visit I was the only one who saw there magical sunrises of everyone in the camp, no other mad photographers :)

Thanks for looking,
Rudi

i looked at this and have had it open on my iphone trying to work it out ....
i like it, its just a shame there isn't more of the dark grass in the foreground ... i think the framing cutting through it makes it distracting ...
other than that ... What amazing colour!
i can imagine that being absolutly stunning to be surrounded by!!

Hi Hamish!

I tend to agree that the bit of grass in the foreground is distracting. Here are 2 similar photos with different framing (actually not the same photo as above but taken the same morning)

Which one do you prefer?

Does the photo need the dark bit in the foreground to anchor it or not?

Thanks!
Rudi

Yes, I think you are correct, somehow I love the one with the dark bit but after looking at it a while it starts to bother me...

Ok, so the one without it is, thanks :)

I think I prefer the one without the black foreground, just the subtle tone of Orange...

I think the issue is the band of orange mist cutting across the bottom of the tree line. It is very bold and leaps to the fore which can confuse the image a little as pictorially the grasses are the closest thing to the viewer. More arty bollocks from a former art student but in short I like it very much but prefer it with the grasses at the bottom cropped out or maybe just some of the tops showing. It seems to re-order the layers.
