Old Library at Noon

They say don't shoot into the sun. And of course we know that better light for photos is available early in the day and also later. So I have flaunted both these guidelines by shooting up into the sun at about noon.

This is a window in the East wall of the old library in Torrance, California. It was used as a library from the early 30's though 60's I think. It is now the Torrance Historical Society museum.

I shot this with the Minox 35GT and expired Fuji NPS 160 film. I had taken (and posted to RPF) a similar shot with the Superheadz Blue Ribbon Toy camera and Rite Aid 400 film (re-branded Fuji) but I wanted to see how different the same image would be when shot with the Minox. (The original toy camera image is the second one below.)

I like that second one very much Brian. The muted colours work very well.

(If only it were straight!). ;)

Oh how interesting!

(You cheeky bugger!:p)

I prefer the first one for the sunburst.

If any one else would care to share their preference I'd be delighted.

I like the first, also for the sunburst, especially near the foot of the frame, where it spreads out. Very nice. But overall, the second wins. The indefinable atmospheric quality is beautiful. I'd like a combination of the two.

Mmmm, lighting in #2 for me - wonderful stuff

although that starburst is very cool in #1

Personally I like numero 2, it has a more ethereal feel to it in my humble opinion :)

Much obliged, Dave. Thank you.

Thanks, Rob. Much appreciated.

Thanks Chris. (I suppose we can expect a comment from you-know-who about the starburst, you, space, etc. ;))

Another selfie I tell you. That's why he's attached to it! ;)

Well, there it is!

the second is my favorite of the two. i like the brighter tones and warmer colors of the building.

Thanks, Beth. I must say that the preference most have shown for the second one surprises me. (And once again rattles any confidence that I might have been gathering about my ability to select a good fotie.) Anyway, thanks again. Beth.
