Here are my best three. We had seats in row two by the 100m and 110m start:

And a couple more of Bolt:

Fantastic - #3 could be a front page shot any day - superb comp and timing

Thanks everyone. No. 3 is certainly my favourite too. The Jamaican in lane 9 clearly had a slower reaction time, judging by the position of his feet compared with the others!

These shots were taken without what LOCOG call a camera "more than a foot long" or a LOCOG-banned tripod. So I had to use a high ISO of 800 or so to freeze the action and stand a chance of decent DOF to keep things in focus.

Given also the degree of cropping on some of them (eg Bolt) the IQ suffers and this doesn't really show up here. I did my best with noise reduction and sharpness in LR but they wouldn't work for magazines etc I expect.

Our position was very close to a "pit" for accredited photographers who no doubt got sharper, high quality versions!

I'll put up some more shots on my site and post a link later.

Fantastic shots, wish I could have been there...

Great set Tim - were you there on Tuesday?

Yes Chris - athletics in the morning, then home soon after. Also the previous Friday night (first night of athletics) and also the ladies gymnastics final at the O2 on the Thursday (no photos).

We were on opposite sides of the stadium on Tues then - small world! :)

Indeed - longest lens I had was the 60mm on the X-Pro1 - not that the big lenses would have been allowed any way!
