On the way home

from my sisters house. Between when I arrived and left the temperature dropped 30 degrees. This is the first weather here this year in below freezing. It was almost 70 when I left. I took the back roads home to avoid the angry inebriated drivers and the requisite every 5-10 miles Highway Patrolman. I didn't bring a coat though. I stopped in a small town for coffee and took these.

Nice set, Steve. How was the coffee? (I find that in small town diners the coffee isn't first class, but the atmosphere, being so different from what one is accustomed to, is amazingly interesting, and the people delightfully simple.--I do not mean that in a pejorative sense.)

Small town diners are great. Unfortunately the only thing open was a Shell station. I think that coffee had been brewing since 8AM, but it was better than the ham my brother in law cooked. I frequently drive on the older state Highways. The main one between where my sister/parents live in Austin and where I live (IS 35) is really congested. I'm not the greatest driver and get very nervous in heavy fast moving traffic. I had actually planned to make a lot of stops on the way home yesterday, especially in this cemetery I had seen but it got really cold and I didn't pack a coat. I'm planning on going back tomorrow if the weather is nice.

Lois and Jerry's in Bartlee. That's the diner I'm going to eat at for lunch. The food is (and coffee) is really good. You have to be careful in these small towns out here. It's not like Western Massachusetts. However, my family is originally from a very small town in Mississippi so I feel at home and generally like the high calorie food......a lot.
