Orchids & Onions

The architecture and design communities of San Diego hold a ceremony every year where they give out "orchids" and "onions" for the best and worst projects of the year. As an ASMP member and volunteer for the organizing committee, I shot a few of the projects. The winners and losers are widely publicized in the local press, so some of these shots were published in our newspaper last week. Here's a sample:

Some of the orchids:

And an onion:
The jury said this elementary school reminded them of a prison (and I'd have to agree), so I shot it accordingly...

Look at those colours in n# 1 and the lines in n#3. Wowee!!
Your right with the penultimate shot, if you wouldn't of said it was a school then I'd of said its a prison.
You've shot this bang on to portray the 'jail' image. Good work dude :)

I'm starting to get interested by images of architecture thanks to the images you post, it never really exited me very much in the past. Among the hideous modern buildings there are some really well designed ones with beautiful layouts. that school is a hideous place isn't it, what is that bell tower about, the whole place looks like it should house Death Row inmates.

Awesome lights in #1, the sunset in the horizon and the reflection it makes on the windows makes the scene look surreal.

#4 looks like the view looking out into a private court yard from inside of a posh property, the green colour of the bush drew my eyes to the center. The colours in this one add a lot of interests, instead of distraction.

Very dramatic sky and the iron gate in #6, my primary/high school were a bit like that ;). I see the opened gate symbolises freedom :D, I like it!

Loving #1 and #2 especially - so did you think, I should have the lights on/off! Or did that just happen?
