PayPal advice needed please

I’m afraid I don’t keep up with all this new-fangled technology. I did have a PayPal account linked to my old photography web site and from memory I think it was validated (or whatever the term is). I never used it and it may have been closed. I also have another PayPal account, which isn’t validated, although I hardly use it and I have never moved money from my bank account. My only experience is buying the odd item online and paying with PayPal.

Now I need to pay for my entries to the International Photography Awards, but it’s all gone wrong. I had problems with PayPal this time, but I don’t know why, so I opted for the Google payment instead. That seemed to go through, but it was blocked by my bank as they suspected fraud. I rang them the next day and they said it was sorted, but that I had to pay again. My IPA account says I owe nothing. I contacted them with a “ticket” service, but they take several days to reply. They got back to me last week saying I could pay them with PayPal, or they could send me an invoice. Now the entries are closed at the end of this month and I clearly can’t pay an invoice in that time, so I asked them to send me the details to pay by PayPal and I moved money from my bank account a few days ago to sit in my PayPal account.

I have yet to hear back from them and I don’t know what to do. I paid them successfully last year with PayPal, so is there any way I can find the details I need? I don’t know how to send them money without going through the normal process. I assume there is also somewhere I can add the numbers of my entries, so they will know what the payment is for.

Did you get an electronic invoice or receipt from Paypal, Lesley? My experience has been that I'll get an E-mailed receipt from Paypal after payment is made. (Maybe its going to your E-mail "junk" file?)

Did you check your activity on your Paypal account? You can check there for payments made also.

Many thanks for replying Brian. It seems the money I moved from my bank account to Paypal hasn't arrived yet. Once it turns up I think I can find where I paid the IPA via Paypal last year. What I don't understand is what details I need to just send money, without going through a normal purchasing process. Their system says all my entries have been paid for, but no money has gone from my account. Do I just use their e-mail address and send that way?

They probably have a link on their site for Paypal, right Lesley? If you click on that it should lead you. Alternatively, though, I think just E-mail is good enough if the recipient is a registered Paypal user. For example, last year I paid a friend for a camera he sent me free of charge. I was unhappy with that arrangement so I sent him money via Paypal to his E-mail without telling him. It went through fine.

Lesley - when you log onto paypal, you have the option to send money

Select that option and you are presented with a box to type the paypal ID for the person you're sending money to

As soon as you click in that box and start typing, you should see a drop down list of everyone you've ever sent paypal to.

Select the IPA address from that list and then go ahead and put in the amount etc

Chris - this is fantastic and thank you!! I found the e-mail address and just sent the payment along with the entry numbers. Now all I have to do is find out where the money went that I sent from my bank to Paypal a few days ago...

Usually takes 3 days or so Lesley - not PayPals fault usually, but the bank's!

No - it seems it went back to my bank as a deposit. No idea why...
