Nostalgia and the British eh ?

The P51D was a really poor mock up.

It was a good weekend none the less.

good set! the portraits are nice, but i like the detail shots of the helmets and motocycle.

i'm planning on going to a revolutionary war/ww2 encampment this saturday, if i can get coverage for friday's midnight shift. the revolutionary war & ww2 combo is a little bit odd, but i'm happy to get both.

Nice work, Shaun. Those sort of events are always great for character studies. Hassle free too as people expect to be noticed and photographed.
Peter, it is still quite amazing how many of these people don't like being photographed and reply 'no' when I ask them.

Well I must say I find that surprising, Shaun. A sign of changing attitudes perhaps. It's been a few years since we last attended a forties event but we used to on a regular basis. I recall only once having received a 'no'. Embracing the spirit of things may have helped though because we used to go dressed accordingly, full ARP uniform in my case. BTW, a gas mask case doubles as an excellent camera bag!

During the period 2005 to 2012 I lived in the town of Pickering and actively photographed the yearly 'wartime weekend' with friends who used to stay over. The times were amazing with lots of curry and beer being consumed. Most of what we shot in those days was film with maybe 99% being black and white probably Fuji Acros. In all of those years I do not remember a 'no' being received from one of the re-enactors but in 2016 I got my first knock back in the town of Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. It is what it is, they have every right to say no. Does seem strange though that they put themselves in this position in a public space. I love these weekends. I still love photography after so many decades.
