Pillar Rock at Sunset

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
This was the rock I chose to photograph the following dawn and it seemed the best choice for sunset too. By this time I was wrapped up like a mummy against the midges, whilst locals strolled past in shorts and T shirts. Taken around half an hour after Curbar Light, but the clouds were still keen to make interesting holes for my delight :)

Very nice again Lesley. I love the drama of the scene and that you have left the darkness around the rock and in the foreground. It creates a nice sense of time and place. I like the lighting in the mid-ground very much too. I found it a touch too light in Curbar Light because a larger area was lit but here it really adds a more specific focal point to start one's exploration of the image. A fabulous image and my favourite from your trip so far! :)

Cheers Pete! I may revisit the other one tomorrow as it was a bit of a battle. (Three evenings with very little sleep in between - my eyes were starting to go funny). This one was a blend of three exposures, but it took almost no time at all.

This is the end of the second day. Up at 4.00 on the final morning for a pre-dawn visit to this rock and my cattle friends. The weather had something very special in store for me that day... :)

It's as if you're painting with sunlight Lesley - another comp winner I think

Have you thought of doing a book or calendar?

No Chris. I can't even keep up with my web site. It's had a rebuild, but the images I processed badly years ago need doing again. As I try and move backwards (and that's not taking into account the decades of film I still have to scan), I'm taking more new images than ever before (all down to this forum). I feel as though I'm falling down the hole in the middle :D

Very nce composition. I really like how the light is playing on the fields below. And the sky is magnificent. I guess I might like a little more exposure on the rock though. Lesly, your work is outstanding!

I could sit there gazing for hours.
It is marvellous, places i would maybe never get a chacne to visit, i can enjoy.
Thank you Lesley.
