Re-skinning your camera

Found this slightly disturbing video on YouTube, showing how to strip down and re-skin a camera - in this case a new Fuji X-Pro1.

Cool to see how it's done - no idea why you would want to apply that brown color though!

The 'manufacturer' has additional options on their website: ƒJƒƒ‰Švê‰È [Aki-Asahi Custom Camera Coverings]

Now the red one I could go for!

2200 Yen-tax and shipping included, which would be under 20 quid if I got that right!

I figured you were a purple croc skin guy Larry! :D

Why on earth would you take a great camera & make it look like it came out of a lucky bag ?????????????????
Trade in price just reduced by about 50% !

Hard to understand. I bought the Fuji X100 a year and a half back when it first became available. I have not even attached the neck strap. Its great virtue is its small size and great stealth. I was somewhat astonished to find threads in the forums of people buying stuff to dress it up. Never-ready cases were discussed from many sources, soft release buttons, custom straps, thumb rests and so on. Sort of like a photographer I knew in the past who rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle—just could not pass up a new piece of chrome to hang on the bike.

Having been a shooter all my life, I appreciate good camera design, but truly see them as tools of the trade. I bought the X100 as a carry everywhere camera, capable of extremely high quality, and above all unobtrusive to the point of near invisibility. It has allowed me to work very close to the subjects, making for unposed and intimate portraits. Adding anything would detract from its prime virtues.

The X-Pro1 trades off just a little bit of the stealth for the new and unique sensor and the versatility of the interchangeable lenses. Again, I want nothing that makes it more noticeable. It was purchased to be an urban, walkin'-'round, shootin'-stuff camera and also for low-light street and people stuff. Much lighter and quieter than the D700 and more versatile than the X100. I feel no need to hang chrome on any of them.
