recent refuge shots

@Beth Anthony, what does the little fox hold in its mouth? A member of the bird's family? Or the bird itself?

I see that you have toned down the grass colours a lot. This gives the scene a more abstract and dramatic atmosphere. Together with the strong vignetting, it seems to me an effective creative choice.

But is this little fox the same one who was stretching in the middle of the road in an earlier photo of yours?

thanks gianluca. i think it might be a small rodent, maybe a vole or mouse. i couldn't tell. the kit was more interested in carrying it around than eating on it.

it might be the same kit. there's 4 kits in this litter, so if it isn't, then it's a littermate. they all like to run around this area.

Again, great bokeh (especially if the background of the first image is relatively unmanipulated). The first kit image is wonderfully sharp and really brings you into the fox's environment ... (so much so that the viewer is careful not to make a sound which would scare the fox away).

Is the refuge easily accessible?

thanks gary. it's one of the most accessible refuges in the country with miles of paved and gravel roads. the foxes were living in a den near the road and were pretty used to the traffic. one fox kit enjoyed napping in front of a speed bump and wouldn't move until you pulled halfway into the grass to go around the kit.

the backgrounds are as is, except for some minor noise removal courtesy of dxo pure raw and a bit of color grading.
