Lovely shot. My kind of place. Looks like maybe someone ate all the other cattails.

That's what they are called over here. The name comes from "cat o' nine tails". They are known as bulrushes in much of the rest of the world. I've eaten them in a number of ways during my outdoorsman days, which were long ago.

The cattail is the 'cigar' one? What would actually be rather funny, because all the other dead material to the right and left of the cigar is called kattenstaart in Dutch, which literally translates as cattail....

That would be kind of amusing if there were more than one stalk of cattail showing. In that case, one of us might say, "Look at the cattails." The other would say, "Oh, yes. They are interesting." Yet, we would be talking about two different plants and probably never realize it.

In the UK these are called Bullrushes, but either way it is a super show and I like the flow from the head of the Bullrush across the pond big white ducks (;))! Very, very effective, Martin.
I agree. The white shapes of the ducks draw my eye when I first look at the photo, but don't hold it because they are OOF. My eyes immediately move to the head of the cattail/bullrush before taking in the rest of the image.
