Retired and enjoying it

New here. Hi y'all! Had a look around before finding this area. So far I'm impressed and very hopeful friendly and helpful can fit like a glove.
I'm Australian married to a Texan Belle, so living in Texas. Retired from work with a younger wife who still works, leaving me lots of hours to potter around with my dslr. No particular genre of photography, I'm more of a what catches the eye type, like flowers, weeds, leaves, trees, birds, nature, or setup indoor photos, like abstract, colors, close up, oddments. I've been snapping about 4 years now, but have forgotten more than I've learnt (memory like a sieve), and do struggle with subjects or what to photigraph. But still enjoy it, especially when I actually like a photo I've taken, which is rare.
Looking forward to learning (or forgetting more) from like minded people. I still believe photography to be a wonderful hobby.

Welcome Sean! Anytime I see the word Texas I'm more attentive. With Texas being such a big and diverse state I was wondering what part you call home. I'm in the DFW region but my roots are West Texas near Lubbock. I'm certainly at that time in my life many would consider as retirement age but I've worked in the Dallas art circles for 49 years and my clients still keep me busy.

Hey Bill.
Thank you for the welcome! We live east Texas, between Tyler and Beaumont. Visited Lubbock a couple of years back, thought it interesting with its history and worth the visit. Whenever I read the word "art" in someone's work life, I'm instantly at awe. Mainly because I'm the least arty person you'll meet, but that doesn't stop me trying my hand at photography. My mother always said I'm a sucker for punishment lol. Guess I'm addicted to it as most days, if I'm not trying to photograph something then I'm reading something or watching youtube photography related stuff. I must admit I'm enjoying this site very much, and it's great to chat with people I wouldn't normally get to chat with, so thank you for initiating this chat and spending your precious time in doing so.

Sean,
I like to look in on the forum before heading to work. I have family in Gilmer, Texas and my wife does hospital chaplain work each month at Christus Mother Frances hospital in Tyler. I've been very blessed to be able to have a career as a photo retoucher and digital darkroom specialist. Don't worry about not being arty, all skill levels are encouraged to participate. I believe there is always something new to learn and one never knows where or who will pass something on that is helpful. I've posted several articles on 35mmc and they tell a little about my photo history and experience.

I'm really just an old man
I suspect you'd find that most participants in online photography forums are in fact old men.

I'm 71 and learned on a 35mm rangefinder 53 years ago. Switched to digital 15 years ago then began shooting film again. You'll find both digital and film shooters here.
