Heading North on Interstate 17 from Phoenix, up over the Mingus Mountains - the late summer sun is pumping up the cumulus clouds - we'll have thunderstorms by days end I think.

Those roads are so straight and boring...but those clouds sure give you something interesting to see. Really nice shot Chris.

Gorgeous image, Chris!

The sky is very dark immediately overhead, but curiously light in the distance. A filter effect, perhaps?

Inviting, isn't it? That 18mm is a nice lens.
Thanks @Rob MacKillop - the 18 is a firm favorite - gets unfair bad press online, but apart from a little chromatic aberration (which can be fixed in PS) it's a lovely piece of glass

Thanks @Glenn Clabo - The cloud formations were amazing, and did indeed produce rain and thunderstorms later in the afternoon.

Here's an alternative view taken off-road, looking up to the distant mountains from the south

Thanks @Brian Moore - well spotted, ND grad to help the sky balance with the darker landscape
