Well done Rob. I spend a lot of time looking at these each day. You give it a different spin. Nice.
Also...just a friendly note about sailor words. Rope is unemployed line...these are attached to and holding boats to the dock...so these are technically lines.
What I'm finding interesting here Rob is the array of soft, dark and creepy reflections and how they seem to dissolve in the water in image 2 and 3 and I feel the lines somewhat take away from this. What do you think or am I talking old hat?
Love how you positioned the boat in the first one though the chain seems abruptly cut off due to the blackness of the water. I think even a small glimpse of the water would solve this. (Again though my laptop might not be displaying everything as you see them.)
All good points, Tom. You are always trying to improve me! Thanks for caring, though I'm very likely beyond help.
I like the fact that the water is solid black in the first. You have to use your imagination
You seem to be saying that the lines/ropes spoil the second and third images, and the ghostly parts are more interesting. I actually like the contrast of the "living and the dead" in these two.
I do like your description of "soft, dark and creepy"!
There are few people on the forum bothering to comment these days, so I do appreciate your thoughts.
Ah no Rob. The lines do not spoil the images; it was not my intention to imply that butI suppose what I am saying is that there may be another image lying there and I just imagined the background without the ropes. I did not get the "living and dead" aspect which I now notice and understand. Image two and three are almost similar except for a shift in the clouds allowing extra light or you processing a little extra.
It's all just me thinking out loud.
I understand you wanting the water as black and this works especially well against the boat; I just felt the chain then looks as if it's going nowhere and that's even trying to use my imagination.
In any man's language it's a good set of close observation images.
I like that first one a lot. I agree that the chain seems cut off abruptly, but that doesn't bother me in the least. Based on your response to Tom I guess you like it as it is Rob and I am with you on it.
Super images and interesting comments. I like the inky black of the first and last and think it works well. One wonders what the boat / lines are attached to. Are they keeping the boat from sifting away from reality?
For the other tow images I like the second more. The light left of centre provides a focal point and hold the elements together I think.
