Salk Institute

I happened to be at the Salk Institute yesterday so I took some shots of this campus. This place is one of the few locations (ok, perhaps the only) in San Diego that's renowned internationally for its architecture, thanks to Louis Kahn's masterpiece. It was cold and grey. That, combined with the concrete brutalist architecture, gave it a distinctly somber tone so I played off of that with the photos.

Here are a few. Click on them to see the rest if you like.

I love this location - keep seeing it on a TV ad at the moment - it's on my to-do list

Must check sunrise/sunset options in TPE!

The first shot, with the small black silhouetted figures, is fabulous

Yes, I was discussing this very topic with the staff photographer for the Salk Institute. He happened to see me taking shots and was intrigued by my camera so he wandered over to get a closer look. He recommended the first two weeks in December as the time when the light is best there.

Sun sets right down the middle on Friday Darren - 6:44pm

Are you able to just walk onto the campus and shoot?

These are fantastic!
Again, remind me of what I might see in my minds eye whilst reading a dystopian novel!
The position of the people is perfect, especially in the second! Maybe they are discussing how to break free of the regime?! ;)

Love these, what a interesting place to shoot!

Yes, it's usually not a problem to walk right on to the campus. Want to meet there next Friday?

Absolutely! So far Friday afternoon is looking good - I'll aim to keep it that way so I'm local at the end of he day
